Summer Chess News in the Cowichan Valley

Dear chess friends:

The numbers are lower for the summer but there is still regular chess every Monday from 6-8 pm at the Cowichan Branch of Vancouver Island Regional Library.  All are welcome, equipment is provided, the library is air-conditioned, and it's all free.

I decided not to go ahead with a 2nd Cowichan Rapid Open this summer. Maybe next year. I will, however, be directing a tournament in Victoria on September 21.

Details are here: Victoria Chess Club Active

The South Cowichan Branch of VIRL looks to be hosting a once-a-month chess club.  I think it is on the last Friday of every month, in the afternoon, or something like that. Give them a call if you're interested.

I've decided to use Lichess.org for some game postings. If you and I had a game at Wood Sense Chess Club, then you may find our game over there at https://lichess.org/

Ask me and I will give you the link.

Nigel

I will try to improve the online registration, but this is what is available so far. You can place comments and questions here (or on the Facebook pages) and I will get back to you. Nigel.

Chess Tournament in Duncan planned for July 28, 2018

Dear friends: The Cowichan Rapid Open Chess Championship is planned for July 28, 2018 at the Island Savings Center (2687 James Street) in Duncan. The tournament will be held in the Mesachie Room at the ISC from 10 am to 5 pm. The event will be a 5-round Swiss tournament with rounds at 10 am, 11:15, 1:30 pm, 2:45, and 4:00. Entry will be $10. I have also created a Facebook group called Wood Sense Chess Club for the purpose of promoting the event. [3rd round has been changed to 1:30, to give the players 1:15 for the 2nd round and an hour for a lunch break.]

Hi Chess friends! Long time no see. Chess teaching is winding down for the summer (new students cheerfully accepted, mind you) though we will still have Wood Sense Chess Club in Duncan on Mondays from 6 to (just before) 8 pm. I'm looking at arranging a chess tournament in the Cowichan Valley. Comments welcome.

Wood Sense Chess Club activity for the summer

Hi chess friends! The Saturday Children's Chess Class has come to an end for the season. However, our Monday evening chess continues every Monday (except when the library has a film night) at the library in Duncan from 6 pm to just before closing at 8 pm.

Those wanting individual chess instruction or tutoring please contact me, Nigel Hanrahan, in one of the following ways:
1. cell = 250 701 1767
2. e mail = Exclam DOT online AT gmail DOT com
3. You can also post here on the blog and I will get your message.

I am presently conducting a survey at the chess club. Let us know what you would like to do/see at the club. Should we have a social get-together this summer?
